Collection: Château de Mille

Château de Mille is the oldest wine estate in Luberon, first documented and mentioned in the Avignon archives in 1238. It was a summer residence of the popes, including Clement VI, whose portrait hangs in the vault.

Purchased by Constance and Lawrence Slaughter, in 2018, they are directly involved in the day-to-day management of the estate. Winemaker, José Alves Pinto has worked on the Mille vines for 22 years.

The couple immediately saw the potential of the vineyard, given its aspect, its old vines - on average 55 years old - and the stony, limestone-rich soil. The Slaughters converted to an organic vineyard. All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wines are aged in a variety of containers - 'concrete eggs, amphorae, oaktanks, stainless-steel and concrete tanks'. In the years they have been producing wine, they have transformed the quality. They now produce two rosés, two whites and three red wines and sell over 50,000 bottles a year.
